Gov. Tim Walz on Monday, Dec. 7, authorized state disaster assistance for Sibley County and seven other counties that were impacted by severe storms this summer.
âItâs our responsibility to help our neighbors recover in the face of devastating weather events,â Walz said. âThese storms were so severe that our communities continue to struggle with damage to their infrastructure and local economy. Thatâs why weâre authorizing funds from our stateâs disaster assistance account to aid in recovery efforts.â
Sibley, Renville, and Nicollet counties experienced flooding caused by a heavy rainfall from a series of thunderstorms that occurred from July 25-27. The heavy rains resulted in flooding and washouts to county and township roads and inundated county ditch systems across the region.

Subscriber only A giant sinkhole has opened up on a suburban street in Coffs Harbour, as a severe warning for heavy rainfall and abnormally high tides is issued for Northern NSW residents. Coffs Harbour City Council said a pipe under the pathway collapsed from the weight of the sodden soil. It comes as intense weather continues to batter the east coast for the sixth day, with rainfall rates expected to ease slightly today as the trough weakens and extends south.

Holiday meccas including the Sunshine Coast, Byron Bay and the NSW north coast have been washed out by the wild weather over the past week - with erosion destroying coastlines and flash flooding devastating communities.
