Virtual Reality Training Giving New Skills To Volunteer Firefighters

VIC Premier A state-of-the-art virtual reality training program that simulates dangerous fire scenarios such as house fires, grassfires and plane fires, while teaching real life firefighting skills, is set to be rolled out across the state. Similar to flight-simulator technology but designed specifically for firefighters, the Virtual Firefighter training program will enhance firefighting skills in a low-risk environment and without the logistics and cost of burning physical assets. Visiting a demonstration of the program at Portarlington today, Minister for Police and Emergency Services Lisa Neville was joined by CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernen and FLAIM Systems Chief Executive Officer James Mullins in officially launching the state-wide program, funded by the Andrews Labor Government.

Boost To Community Projects And Services In Bushfire Areas

VIC Premier Nine community organisations across the North East and East Gippsland will share in over $465,000 in bushfire recovery grants to support projects that boost resilience, service delivery and community pride. Minister for Police and Emergency Services Lisa Neville today congratulated the latest recipients of Bushfire Recovery Victoria’s grants for community facilities, Local Government Authorities and community service organisations, which include a much-loved community hall built in the 1950s that needs vital upgrades. East Gippsland’s Cabbage Tree Creek Hall hosts community meetings and events, music and dance, a gym for seniors, and more. Funding of $44,139 will upgrade the hall’s sewerage and wiring and build a veranda.
