Two Longtime Sheriff s Office Captains Retire

On April 30th, Captain Wayne Bisard and Captain Bob Vogt will be retiring from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office with 26 and 30 years of service. They served honorably and were dedicated to the citizens of Jackson County. Captain Bob Vogt graduated from Lumen Christi High School in 1987. He began his career with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office on November 5, 1990 as a corrections deputy. After graduating from the corrections academy, he was assigned to the Wesley Street Jail. As a corrections deputy, Captain Vogt ensured inmates were safe, secure, and treated fairly. In 2003, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. In this role, he supervised and directed corrections deputies and was the manager for Community Corrections. In 2011, he was promoted to Lieutenant and became the Director of 911 Emergency Dispatch Center for Jackson County. In May 2013 he was promoted to Captain, becoming the Commander of the Corrections Division.

Police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said the three men produced a firearm and robbed a victim on Vause Road in Musgrave. Gwala said a cellphone and wallet were taken from the victim before the robbers sped off, but their vehicle crashed with another car at the corner of Sydenham and Essenwood roads. They were arrested by police officers and detained at Berea SAPS for armed robbery, she said.

Reno County fires 95 percent contained

The Hutchinson News Fire officials reported the Beer and Ice wildfires are now 95% contained. In an online post, Hutchinson Fire Chief Steven Beer stated final containment of the two fires that burned nearly 1,000 acres in portions of northern and eastern Reno County won’t be declared until they see what forecasted strong winds on Friday do. “We have been preparing the last two days for the wind switch and increased wind speed,” Beer stated. “We believe we have the fire lines secured to handle this change in weather. Fire crews will continue to work and monitor both fires.” Friday’s forecast calls for sustained winds of up to 31 mph in the afternoon, and gusts over 40 mph.

(Pearland Police Department) HOUSTON – A woman has been charged in connection with a motorcycle crash that killed Harris County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Bruce Watson, according to the Pearland Police Department. On Tuesday, Floribeth Sandoval-Benjume was arrested and charged with manslaughter. Watson, a 20-year department veteran, had just finished an off-duty job leading a funeral procession and was on his way home on his motorcycle when he got involved in a crash with an SUV on Jan. 2. The driver of the SUV, Sandoval-Benjume, stopped after the crash and showed no signs of drugs or intoxication, police said.
