• Bradford County, Union County, Alachua County, all counties, take down your Trump signs. He’s no longer president.
• I’m over 65 with several health conditions. I’ve been on the county list for COVID-19 vaccines for about eight weeks now and have heard nothing from the Alachua County Department of Health. Thank God Walmart is in town. I just got my first COVID-19 vaccine there.
• I read with dismay that a few UF nursing students were angry about them being assigned to work on a COVID ward without being vaccinated. If they had graduated just two years ago, they could have been working 60, 70, 80 hours a week taking care of COVID patients for 10 months before there was a vaccine available. Thankfully, it sounds like it was only a few, but those few ought to rethink their career path.

• I’d like to comment on the city of Gainesville trying to take over University Avenue and 13th Street, which I think is a terrible mistake. If you can’t control bad drivers, that is the problem with the road, not road design. So you need more law enforcement, not more road design, and the city can’t even upkeep the streets they now own, much less the state roads that require a whole lot more work.

• Alachua County School Superintendent Carlee Simon said that the upcoming rezoning being taken on by the School Board would be historic. No, it’s not. Back throughout the ’70s and early ’80s our School Board rezoned constantly . And yes, there were always unhappy people, but our School Board members at that time had the courage to say, “This is what needs to be done. This is the best overall.” But for a long time now our school boards have not been willing to face the people to do the right thing.
