Elsa updates: Heavy rainfall expected to be the greatest threat to Beaufort County

Elsa updates: Heavy rainfall expected to be the greatest threat to Beaufort County The Island Packet 2 hrs ago Sofia Sanchez, The Island Packet (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) Jul. 6 As Tropical Storm Elsa tracks through the Southeast Wednesday and Thursday, Beaufort County is likely to see 2 to 4 inches of rain, a National Weather Service meteorologist said Tuesday evening. The worst of the rain is projected to arrive Wednesday night, with the storm shifting out of the area on Thursday, Douglas Berry, the meteorologist, said. Ron Morales, warning coordination meteorologist for the NWS Charleston, said rainfall is expected to be the biggest threat to coastal areas but is probably the most difficult to forecast.

Elsa expected to bring heavy rain to Beaufort, Jasper counties

Bluffton Today/Jasper County Sun Times A tropical storm warning was issued late Tuesday for Beaufort and Jasper counties as Tropical Storm Elsa moved north along the western coast of Florida.  Elsa was expected to make landfall in Florida and impact coastal Georgia and South Carolina from Wednesday into Thursday as it weakened, the National Weather Service said.  Tropical storm warnings are in effect for coastal counties in Georgia and South Carolina. A warning is issued when tropical storm conditions, including winds of 39 to 73 mph, are expected within 36 hours.  “There is an increasing potential (for) flash flooding, gusty winds to tropical storm force, isolated tornadoes, and dangerous rip currents across much of Southeast South Carolina and Southeast Georgia, including the adjacent coastal waters as the center of Elsa passes through the region,” the National Weather Service said.
