Hyderabad, June 3 : Opposition parties in Telangana on Thursday strongly condemned arrest of a journalist, calling it an attempt to crush freedom of press.
G. Raghu Ramakrishna, who works for Tolivelugu, a Telugu portal, and some other media outlets, was initially reported to have been kidnapped from his house near Malkajgiri in Hyderabad but police issued a statement later that he was arrested in connection with an old case.
Mattampally police station house officer informed the family of the 34-year-old journalist that they arrested him in connection with a case, in which he is accused number 19. Hyderabad, April 28 : Senior journalist Sridhar Dharmasanam passed away due to Covid-19 at the TIMS hospital here on Wednesday. He was the Editor of Maa Hyderabad and a TV Producer and Director.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has mourned the death of Dharmasanam who participated actively in the Telangana movement through his Maa Hyderabad organisation. Rao conveyed his condolences to members of the bereaved family.
Sridhar earlier worked with three English newspapers and was associated with Jain TV and a few magazines.
Telangana to pay Rs 2L to kin of journalists who died of Covid

Hyderabad, April 26 : The Telangana State Media Academy has decided to provide Rs 2 lakh each as financial assistance to the families of journalists who have died of Covid-19 in the state.
Academy chairman Allam Narayana said on Monday that 200 journalists infected by Covid-19 will also be provided assistance.
He said the decision was taken in view of the intense second wave of the pandemic. During the last 10 days, 15 journalists have succumbed to the virus.
The Telangana Union of Working Journalists and other journalists unions had made representations to the Academy, seeking financial help for the families of scribes who died of Covid and also to journalists who have tested positive.
