and last updated 2021-04-27 08:27:51-04 Tom from Denver writes, “Jayson, what’s driving me crazy is the closure of eastbound 14th Avenue at Colorado Boulevard. It seems like it’s been closed for six months! This is a major west to east thoroughfare and having it closed this long is getting on my nerves. Avilla to hear from consultant on sewer plant upgrade

AVILLA — The town of Avilla’s wastewater treatment plant needs an upgrade. A consultant’s report set the estimated price tag at $2.3 million. For that kind of money, the Avilla Town Council said Wednesday it wanted to hear from the author of the report, which could happen as soon as the council’s next meeting set for May 19. According to Utilities Superintendent Brian Carroll, the sewage plant went online in February 2002. “It hasn’t been touched in 20 years,” Carroll told the council. Several upgrades need to be made to keep the town in compliance with discharge requirements set by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. Among the issues is the amount of phosphorous being removed.
