Ronald DeFeo Jr., who slaughtered his parents and four siblings in 1974, has died at the age of 69 in prison. The news of his death was confirmed by New York State officials.
DeFeo died on Friday while serving a 25-years-to life sentence at Sullivan Correctional Facility in Fallsburg, New York. The convicted murderer was transferred to Albany Medical Center and pronounced dead at 6:35 PM. As of this writing, an official cause of death has not been determined and an autopsy performed at the Albany County Medical Examiner s Office was in the process of being conducted.

The Brooklyn native, whose crime inspired the book and film versions of The Amityville Horror , died at 69 years old after spending more than 40 years in custody.
