POCAHONTAS An Algona man charged with attempted murder stemming from a September Rolfe shooting will plead guilty to less serious crimes, according to plea agreements filed earlier this month.
Joshua Schmidt, 18, will plead guilty to going armed with intent and possession of a short-barreled shotgun, class D felonies. Previously, he was charged with those two offenses in addition to attempted murder and assault while displaying or using a dangerous weapon.
In exchange for his plea, he will receive an indeterminate prison term of up to five years for each of the two charges and a fine between $1,025 and $10,245. It’s unclear from the agreement whether the terms would be served concurrently or consecutively.
