In April, the Algonquin Village Board adopted a parks and recreation master plan to develop actionable items for the village parks and recreation services to strive to accomplish over the next 10 years.
The village maintains over 22 miles of trails, 554 acres of natural areas, 21 developed park sites totaling 174 acres, an aquatic facility, and hundreds of recreation programs.
The village retained Hitchcock Design Group to assist with the plan that included an open and transparent public input process, including an in-person workshop, mailed survey, online survey, post pandemic online survey, stakeholder meetings, as well as board and staff input allowing for a 360-degree look into parks and open space, naturalized areas, facilities, and programs.

Several hundred acres of land on the Route 31 corridor by Cary and Algonquin that had been used for sand and gravel mining are set to be restored and redeveloped in the future.
The Cary Village Board last week approved a resolution accepting the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning s Algonquin-Cary subarea plan.
Included in this plan s framework are future land uses and development opportunities, an open space and green infrastructure network, as well as proposed transportation and infrastructure improvements.

The village of Algonquin was awarded $350,000 from the state to help businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Grant amounts vary from $5,000 to $15,000 and will be proportional to the amount of businesses documented losses attributable to the COVID-19 public health emergency, according to Algonquin Village Board documents.
The village board unanimously approved an agreement Tuesday between the village and Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, the state agency working with local governments to distribute federal COVID-19 relief dollars to qualified businesses.
The village already has reviewed business applications to its Impacted Business Relief Grant Program and made a determination on their eligibility for funding, Assistant Village Manager Mike Kumbera said.
