RARITAN, NJ - A long-time member and former president of the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District Board of Education died from COVID-19.
Alsdorf “Al” Smith is remembered by former board members and friends as a dedicated, kind man with a true passion and knack for public service. He was wise in his leadership, placing confidence in new BOE members that would catapult them into several terms of public service. A rare man in the world of elected officials, Smith’s only agenda in local government was to serve the people of Raritan, according to those who knew him.
