Local residents advocated for months to get city approval.
The City of National City raised a Pride flag over its City Hall during a ceremony held today. The modern version of the Pride flag, the Progressive Pride flag, was chosen by city officials to fly in honor of Pride Month.
This was a historic first for National City as historically, areas of the county outside of central core neighborhoods like Hillcrest, were not known to be supportive of the LGBTQ community.
The idea to fly the flag was brought forward by community activists in the city, particularly resident Coyote Moon, who became a very vocal proponent to get city officials to change their flag code to allow the rainbow flag to be flown.
