Five years after the Panama Papers were first published, the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists is still regularly peppered with questions about how the investigation unfolded.
To mark the anniversary of the investigation, ICIJ hosted a live virtual event with award-winning journalists Emilia Díaz-Struck, Bastian Obermayer and Rita Vásquez, as well as documentary filmmaker Alex Winter, who went back to the very beginning to tell the inside story of the making of the Panama Papers, and to reflect on all the major reforms spurred by the global investigation.

Starting MyVillage
Szymanski founded MyVillage in 2017 after moving to Colorado the year before. She was looking for a child care center to send her six-month-old girl. The first center told me there was a two-year waitlist and I thought that was an anomaly. I went to every center in town and it was the same story, Syzmanski said.
Hearing about the waitlists from child care centers made her frustrated and at the same time terrified due to the high costs and not having any other solution. It made her feel like a failure of a parent.
