The extraordinary Boat Tail – a retro-styled convertible that will launch a new era of Rolls-Royce cars
These are the first photographs of the extraordinary Boat Tail – a retro-styled convertible that will launch a new era of Rolls-Royce cars, individually coach-built at the company’s headquarters in West Sussex.
Believed to have been commissioned by billionaire rap artist and his equally high profile wife, Boat Tail has no fixed roof. Instead, the luxury limo was purposely designed for the Mediterranean backroads of the Cote d’Azur, when the couple regularly visit on holiday.
The unique four-seater was itself inspired by a one-off, glass-roof design that Rolls-Royce first displayed in 2017, wowing crowds at the glamorous Concorso d Eleganza event in Italy. Sweptail featured a tapered rear-end and provoked a rash of interest from prospective buyers looking for a bespoke Rolls of their own.

Rolls-Royce has revealed a new ultra-exclusive bespoke model that will spearhead the expansion of its coachbuilding service into a distinct business.
The most expensive model that the British marque has yet produced takes the name Boat Tail. Last used for a series of coachbuilt Rolls-Royces in the 1920s and 1930s, it refers to a distinctive rear end that mimics a J-class yacht’s hull.
A bold and imposing two-door, four-seat grand tourer, the car is 5900mm long and has a removable ‘canopy’ roof. Three examples have been hand-built, heavily customised to the desires of their buyers, who were involved throughout the entire design process.
Rolls-Royce Takes Wraps Off Custom Built Boat Tail By Dawn Geske Rolls-Royce unveiled the Boat Tail as part of its Coachbuild program.
Rolls-Royce is going back to its roots with a custom-built car that only three lucky owners will have the opportunity to drive away in.
The car dubbed the Boat Tail comes with what is thought to be an estimated $25 million price tag, although Roll-Royce did not specify a number, only saying that three buyers commissioned the vehicles, with all of them wanting a nautical feel without revealing their identities, CNN reported.
As part of its Coachbuild program, Rolls-Royce will work with customers to design and build a car that is specifically tailored to the owner. Only one car will be produced every few years, Rolls-Royce executives said, but the cost of how much the entire development process from design to delivery was unclear at the time of writing.
Rolls-Royce newest convertible is picnic ready
The nautical references in the car design are inspired by J-class yachts.
Rolls-Royce have released details of a new convertible which contains cocktail tables, fridges for champagne and a matching parasol – all custom made for a single, ultra-wealthy, individual.
Named the ‘Boat Tail’, the rear of the car is shaped like a racing yacht. It was hand-built and took four years to make. Rolls-Royce have not disclosed the price tag, or the name of the buyer.
The 5.8 metres long convertible was produced by a newly announced division within Rolls-Royce called “Coachbuild”. It is the first of three custom made cars for different clients, who were selectively chosen to work with designers from the elite car company.
