A BATTLE trust wants local heroes to be honoured in the street names given to a new town being built on part of its historic site. The Battle of Prestonpans Trust has produced a wish list of names for the new East Lothian settlement of Blindwells commemorating the historic figures and places from the famous Jacobite victory. Top of its list of names are four local men who came from neighbouring Tranent and made their mark in Bonnie Prince Charlie’s 1745 victory. They include Robert Anderson Way, to commemorate a quartermaster in the Jacobite army who guided the soldiers on a treacherous path using local knowledge; Henderson Road, in honour of Alexander Henderson, who joined the army after acting as a guide as they passed through the town; and Davidson Road for Henry Davidson, a stonemason who fought with the Jacobites and joined the Prince’s Lifeguards after the battle.
Â
City Manager Alexander Henderson made a full report on the pandemic at the Feb. 17 council meeting. The discussion turned to the acquisition and distribution of the COVID vaccine, especially the home bound senior citizens in Kingsburg.
Â
âWhat we are waiting on locally is state and county guidance on how we can manage things locally,â said Council member Michelle Roman.
Â
Henderson said that Kingsburg has completed its application to the state to try to get a direct allocation of doses.
Â
âBasically, I think there is a backlog of applications occurring right now and just a deficit of total doses that are available. We have not received any feedback or any go ahead to have anything locally,â she said.

Russell MacKenzieâs drawing of the front elevation of Thurso Town Hall.
The announcement last month that Thursoâs former town hall will be reopened as the North Coast Visitor Centre was suitable timing. The building was celebrating its 150th anniversary since it was opened on the evening of Thursday, January 12, 1871.
When the facility closed in April 2006 for renovations, it was felt by some that Thurso had lost its town hall. To some degree, it had, as the large hall was no more.
