(WWNY) - School districts across the north country held budget votes Tuesday. Voters were also selecting school board members and weighing in on various school purchases and projects, depending on the district. Results are below. We’ll be updating as the information comes in. Tuesday evening update: All school districts report their budgets have passed. The headline of the night is record turnout in the Ogdensburg City School District and a contentious vote to restore funding to the public library. Voters there increased library funding by $225,000 in a vote of 792 to 405.

Friday, May 7, 2021 - 9:04 am CANTON The St. Lawrence County Youth Bureau is seeking input from community members. Each year, the Youth Bureau allocates funding to youth-serving organizations that provide programming to meet identified community needs. The Youth Bureau developed two online surveys. One survey offers questions to students in grades 6-12 and the other (survey) provides questions for parents, educators, and youth serving professionals. “Our goal is to gain insight into our county youth and adults concerned about meeting the needs of their children or youth they serve. The information gathered helps the Youth Bureau make the best recommendations to youth serving programs. We want to ensure we are meeting our youth interests and needs,” stated Alexa Backus, St. Lawrence County Youth Bureau Director.

St Lawrence County Youth Bureau Weds Zoom meeting for teens to discuss mental health

Tuesday, May 4, 2021 - 6:06 pm CANTON In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, the St. Lawrence County Youth Bureau invites all county teens, grades 6 through 12, to attend an online meeting next Wednesday, May 12 at 7 p.m. The meeting will be facilitated by three to four teens who are members of the Youth Bureau’s Youth Committee. It will be moderated by Youth Bureau Director Alexa Backus, and St. Lawrence County Community Services Mental Health Program Director Amy Richardson. “Next week, our teens will have an opportunity to have a safe place to open dialogue about how they’re doing. Our youth committee decided it’s time to open communication about tough topics such as feeling overwhelmed, depression, teen bullying, and feelings of grief. This is a peer-peer teen discussion where feelings are communicated and self-care strategies are exchanged,” Backus said.
