Gloriavale: Police remain on site at under-fire Christian community

Police and Oranga Tamariki staff remain at Gloriavale investigating alleged child abuse at the West Coast Christian Community.
They have been there since early May, speaking with numerous people as they investigate the allegations, which include child sex abuse.
Police said this morning that inquiries at the community were ongoing.

Oranga Tamariki spokeswoman Alison McDonald could only give limited comment on the ongoing work. We can confirm that we are continuing to work with the police to ensure the safety of children and young people at Gloriavale, but cannot comment further at this stage, she said.

Police and Oranga Tamariki have finished interviewing people at Gloriavale in relation to a range of alleged offending, including sexual offences.
The two agencies conducted four days of interviews at the remote West Coast community, where police say a significant number of community members were spoken to.

Police and Oranga Tamariki are on-site at Gloriavale conducting inquiries as part of an investigation.
A police spokesperson confirmed staff have been at the West Coast religious commune together with staff from Oranga Tamariki.
They will be back on-site on Wednesday but would not disclose any further details.
Sources have told the Herald children between the ages of 5 and 16 are being interviewed and the investigation relates to allegations of sexual abuse.
