AROUND ANASTASIA ISLAND: What to know about Music by the Sea concerts

The St. Augustine Beach Civic Association has faced ups and downs, on and offs, and other obstacles in its efforts to move forward with the 19th season of the Wednesday night Music by the Sea summer concerts at Pier Park. The good news, as of this writing, is that the shows will go on, but with some alterations and conditions. Two weeks ago, they were looking at ticket requirements with limited attendance in order to comply with local and federal COVID-19 regulations. That has changed in the past week.  What you need to know • The free summer outdoor concert series featuring local talent is sponsored by the St. Augustine Beach Civic Association and will be from 7 to 8:50 p.m. on Wednesdays from May 26 through Sept. 1 at Pier Park Pavilion. Tickets are not required nor are they being offered.

Hearing held for FUMC daycare child abuse suspects

Paige Williams There’s no trial date scheduled for the four women charged in connection with alleged child abuse at the First United Methodist Church daycare after arraignment was held Wednesday for the former pastor and daycare director who were recently re-indicted for new charges. Superseding indictments for eight counts each of complicity to criminal child abuse against children under the age 12 were returned Friday against Reverend Paige Williams and former daycare director Abby Leach. They were both previously charged with only one count of complicity to child abuse. The indictments allege they “breached their legal duty to protect the minor children by failing to prevent Alison Simpson and Nina Cook from intentionally abusing” children. In each count, the victim is described as being under the age of 13 months old.

  Superseding indictments were returned against former First United Methodist Reverend Paige Williams and former daycare director Abby Leach they were both previously charged with only one county of complicity to child abuse, but now they’re indicted on eight counts each of complicity to criminal child abuse against children under the age 12.  The indictments allege they “breached their legal duty to protect the minor children by failing to prevent Alison Simpson and or Nina Cook from intentionally abusing” those children. In each count, the victim is described as being under the age of 13 months old. All of the counts allege Simpson placed the victims “in a situation that may cause serious physical injury, causing torture, cruel confinement or cruel punishment.” A fourth suspect, former daycare worker Nina Morgan, is charged with two-counts of criminal child abuse.

Sign Up An animal welfare charity has warned of consequences for anyone found to have abandoned an animal after six domestic rabbits were found within the space of a week in Moray. The Scottish SPCA was alerted to four rabbits on April 14 at the side of the road in Mulben, which were caught over the following two days. It comes after a further two rabbits were found on Monday, not far from the first location.
