Plans to transform AECC site into 500 homes approved

© Chris Sumner / DCT Media The arena at the AECC has already been demolished. Nearly 500 homes will be built on the site of what was Aberdeen’s premiere entertainment venue for decades. The former Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC), which was rendered redundant after the new P&J Live venue opened in 2019, has long been earmarked for redevelopment. Demolition of the main arena – which played host to some of the biggest names in showbiz between 1985 and 2019 – was carried out last year, after work was initially delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. A section of the complex closest to Ellon Road, including its tower, was bought by King’s Community Church last year and is also now home to Aberdeen North food bank.

The Shielhill Road junction with the B999 Potterton to Bridge of Don road has caused complaints from residents for years due to the many cars and heavy goods vehicles that “thunder” along it, close to people’s homes.
