Islamabad:The Government of Federal Republic of Germany shares a cordial relationship in development cooperation with the Government of Islamic Republic of Pakistan (GoP) for over 60 years. Germany has proven to be a key partner in supporting the GoP to achieve its national priority policies since the 1960s in different development sectors. Based on the energy sector s long-lasting cooperation, a new implementation agreement between GIZ Pakistan and the Ministry of Energy (Power Division) has been signed today at the Ministry of Energy (Power Division). Under the agreement, GIZ Pakistan will implement “Promotion of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Concepts in Cities and Industry (REEE SCALE) Project. It will assist the Ministry of Energy, (Power Division) and its apex organisation, National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (NEECA) to achieve its national energy efficiency targets.

The Senate Standing Committee on Power chairman has said that the Sindh police and politicians are involved in electricity theft and employees of power distribution companies are complicit in this activity.
“Electricity theft is taking place in colonies and offices of Sindh police,” said Senator Saifullah Abro, who chaired the committee meeting.
He said that in Sindh politicians were running 50 air conditioners in their homes and the employees of power distribution companies were their accomplices in the theft.

Prime Minister Imran Khan said owing to Pakistan’s immense tourism potential, the government was focused on exploring the sector for revenue and employment generation.
“Pakistan can earn money from tourism alone, both local and international, by revamping the infrastructure and ensuring facilities for tourists,” the prime minister said at the cheque distribution ceremony under Ehsaas scholarships and Kamyab Jawan Programme.
The prime minister, who earlier inaugurated the Kohsar University at the hill resort of Murree, said the world-class institution would play a key role in imparting the local student’s necessary skills in hotel management and tourism.

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Power Thursday approved the amendments to the Regulation of Generation, Transmission and Distribution of Electric Power Act 1997 empowering the government to impose surcharges on the power consumers to recover the cost what the power distribution companies (Discos) are piling up due to their own inefficiencies.
National Assembly Standing Committee on Power meeting was chaired by Ch Salik Hussain. Five members of the Committee gave votes in favour of the bill whereas four members opposed it. Sher Akbar, Amir Dogar, Saif-ur-Rehman, Lal Chand Engineer and Sabir Hussain Qaimkhani voted in favour of the bill. However, Shazia Marri, Saira Bano, Ghulam Mustafa Shah and Riaz Hussain Pirzada opposed giving sweeping powers to the government to impose surcharges on the consumers.
