Canary Wharf Squash Classic to Be Staged in November - Professional Squash Association

Upcoming The Canary Wharf Squash Classic, the most prestigious professional squash tournament held in London, United Kingdom, returns to the PSA World Tour calendar between November 14-19 when the 18th edition of the PSA Gold event will be held at the spectacular East Wintergarden venue. The event begins with the popular People’s Sunday programme, featuring eight first round matches, and culminates in the traditional Friday finale. Last year’s tournament was the final men’s PSA World Tour event to take place before the tour was suspended for six months due to the global COVID-19 pandemic and fans were treated to a phenomenal final in which World No.2 Mohamed ElShorbagy beat World No.1 Ali Farag in a memorable battle between the world’s top two players.

Tarek Momen is the reigning World Champion, having claimed the global title in Doha in 2019 but a year earlier Farag claimed his only World title with a 3-1 victory over Momen when the tournament was held in the Windy City for the first time, with the final being showcased in the Great Hall of the city’s iconic Union Station. While a $1million prize-pot is once again up for grabs and split equally across the male and female events as the game’s showpiece event is presented by the Walter Family for a second time.

Wednesday, 24 February 2021 Chicago will host the re-scheduled 2020-2021 Squash World Championships from July 10 to 17, when players compete for $1million (£700,000/€822,000) in prize money for only the second time in the sport’s history, it has been announced. It will be Chicago’s second hosting of the Professional Squash Association’s (PSA) flagship event following the 2019 Championship, which was held in the Great Hall of the city s Union Station. Egyptians Ali Farag and Nour El Sherbini captured the titles on that occasion, winning the sport s first $1 million tournament in the process. The tournament, which is being supported by the Walter Family, will be held in accordance with strict COVID-19 protocols.
