Men s Matches of the Year News As we come to the end of 2020, we are taking a look back at one of the strangest years in recent history, and this time, it is the best matches of the year. In the second part of this two-part piece, we will focus on the men’s game, which has seen pretty much everything over the course of the last twelve months. Ali Farag started the year as the World No.1, but saw Mohamed ElShorbagy take the top spot after ’The Beast’ lifted the trophy at the J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions in New York in January. Farag would then claim the summit of the World Rankings following his win at the CIB Egyptian Open in October.

Message from the CEO: 2020 Recap and A Look Ahead to the New Year News 2020 was an unprecedented year in the history of squash, with the global COVID-19 pandemic plunging the sport into a period of uncertainty and fundamentally changing the way we all live our lives.   After a magnificent start to the year – which saw Camille Serme, Mohamed ElShorbagy, Nour El Sherbini, Ali Farag and Hania El Hammamy all lift major honours – we were forced into the incredibly difficult decision to suspend professional squash following the outbreak of COVID-19.   The suspension was initially planned for six weeks. Six weeks then turned into six months due to the ever-changing nature of the coronavirus before professional squash returned with a bang in September in Manchester.

2020: Year In Review - PT.2 News 180 days after the PSA World Tour and PSA Challenger Tour were both suspended due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, professional squash returned to action in September. We may have missed out on half the year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but there has still been plenty of quality action around the world on both the PSA World Tour and the PSA Challenger Tour across the last twelve months. In the first of two parts, we are taking a look back at what happened in the three month spell of play from January to March, before the sport had to be put on a hiatus due to the pandemic, with lockdowns happening around the globe.

PSA 21st Dec 2020 Power Ratings The final tournament of a challenging 2020 saw the CIB Black Ball Squash Open held in Cairo, and following the event, there have been some big changes on the SquashLevels Power Ratings SquashLevels calculates a player’s current playing level after every match based on their levels going into the match and the result of that match. Their level will increase if they do better than expected or decrease if they do less well than expected giving a very dynamic measure for how well each player is playing ‘at the moment’ and what their playing level has been over time.
