The accident occurred at 9:00am at Uttar Bazar area of Sitakunda upazila, just hundred yards away from the police station. The deceased was identified as Nurjahan Begum (55), hailing from Uttar Mohadebpur of Sitakunda upazila. Md Faruk, inspector of Highway Police, quoting locals, told The Daily Star that a speeding covered van hit the auto-rickshaw carrying Nurjahan, leaving her severely injured. Bystanders rushed her to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH)

8 get life term for 2008 murder UNB, Dhaka UNB, Dhaka A Dhaka court today sentenced eight to life in prison, in a case filed for killing a man in 2008. Judge of Dhaka Special Judges Court-5 Iqbal Hossain handed down the verdict against convicts Alal Uddin, Joynal Abedin, A Razzak, A Sattar, A Zabbar, Aual Mia alias Aual, Samar Ali alias Samar and Tamij Uddin alias Tamu.   The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each, in default of which they will have to serve additional six months of rigorous imprisonment.   The court also sentenced convicts Sohel Rana, Sohrab Mia, Babul Mia alias Babul, and Firoz Mia to one and a half years in prison under two separate sections of the relevant law.

Three back-to-back floods affected Aman fields at initial stage this year, putting thousands of farmers at serious risk of cultivation. But after the flash floods, insistent and moderate rainfall brought blessings for the farmers as it helped much to wash away the weeds from their field, said Md Habibur Rahman, deputy director of Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) in Netrokona.
