ACC has broken ground on a new $17.6 million, 33,000-square-foot facility, expected to open in fall 2022, that will provide career pathways to students studying biotech, medical laboratory technology and histotechnology.
May 18, 2021 • (TNS) Alamance Community College broke ground last week on a new Biotechnology Center of Excellence that aims to increase enrollment capacities and strengthen the school-to-work pipeline for local biotechnology jobs. Alamance Community College s Biotechnology training program is the nation s first two-year associate degree program. Started in 1983, we have graduated nearly 500 students who work for prominent biomanufacturing companies in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. When Barrett Brown had issues with some students sleeping in class, he was faced with two choices: send them to the principal’s office or investigate the core reason. He decided on the latter. And when he did, he discovered that some kids weren’t getting enough sleep because they were tasked with taking care of younger siblings while their parents worked late shifts. Do you suspend them or send them to the office every time they are not up in class?” asked Brown, a former teacher who is now Alamance County’s NAACP president. “Being aware of what s going on in students lives sometimes can make a difference with how you deal with disciplinary challenges.”
