Back in 2016, the community rallied for 6-year-old King Carter, who was murdered in his apartment complex. Since then, at least three people were arrested in connection with the case.
And in 2006, 9-year-old Sherdavia Jenkins was killed by a stray bullet in front of her brother, sister and best friend. The community came out Wednesday in a march for peace in response to a wave of violent and deadly shootings in Miami-Dade County.
In the last month alone, there have been two mass shootings in Miami-Dade County. Community leaders say they want to change the perception associated with the word snitching.
Birthday parties, airports, schools, malls and even churches are no longer safe places to frequent, as shooting incidents reach an all-time high, leaving several innocent bystanders caught in the crosshairs.

A 4-year-old girl has died from injuries sustained in an incident at a Raleigh hotel. Subsequently, a man has been charged in connection with her death. Milton Ray Horton, Jr. was charged with murder. Horton, 27, was arrested by Raleigh police. Around 4:30 on Sunday morning, Raleigh police arrived at the Candlewood Suites hotel on Lead Mine Road to find the child seriously hurt. Police said she suffered severe injuries and later died at a hospital. WRAL did an extensive search Horton and learned he’s been arrested six times as an adult in Wake County – for crimes like breaking and entering, resisting a public officer and trespassing.

Miami-Dade Police learned that the shooting unraveled Saturday just after 8 p.m. during the young boy s birthday party at an Airbnb rental in Golden Gables.
A 3-year-old lost his life over the weekend during a drive-by shooting at his own birthday party and Miami-Dade Police are still looking for the person responsible, authorities said in a press release. The toddler was rushed to the hospital where he died of his injuries, and a 21-year-old woman was also caught in the gunfire but is reportedly in stable condition, cops said.
