Malcolm believed it was quite fitting that her mother-in-law worked as an early childhood teacher. “She showered the children with love and affection.” Of course, all that experience came in handy when the two became grandparents, and they never missed an opportunity to babysit their two granddaughters. They visited at least once a week and “would be here in a second to help out.” The couple s daughter Emma Malcolm is pregnant with their third granddaughter and Malcolm said the family was wrapping their support around her. Jim was a shift worker at the Tiwai Point Aluminium Smelter and was always checking the weather for days he could ride his beloved Harley-Davidson.

The couple killed in a crash this week have been described as loving grandparents and hardworking Southlanders.
Kareen and Jim Malcolm, of Invercargill, died after their motorcycle and a milk tanker collided on the Riverton-Wallacetown Highway (State Highway 99), between Taramoa Rd and Price Rd, on Monday.
