Family pay tribute to former editor of coastal titles Andrew Martin

A FAMILY has paid tribute to a committed coastal newspaper editor who had been in the industry for more than 50 years. Andrew Martin, who was living in Conwy Valley at the time of his death, started his newspaper career in 1968. His first job had been in printing. He did this for six months before securing a job as junior reporter on The Banbury Advertiser. After a couple of years, he got a reporting job on the Banbury Guardian as a sports reporter. He worked for Radio Oxford reporting on the local football team Banbury United. He then moved to Malvern, Worcestershire, where he was made editor of the Malvern Gazette before becoming editor of the Evesham Journal and then, the Worcester Evening News.

Tributes paid to former Worcester Evening News editor of coastal titles Andrew Martin

Andrew Martin was the editor of the Evening News in the 1990s - now known as Worcester News. Veteran Worcester News reporter Mike Pryce said: He was great at the job and a very good cricketer. When he left, he edited on other titles and this doesn t surprise me. David  Wood, former sub-editor at the Worcester News  and Cotswold Journal said: Andrew took me on as a sub-editor at Worcester in 1997. I only worked for him for a relatively short time but my abiding memory was my job interview. It was more of an informal chat than a grilling.  I was living in Shipston-on-Stour in Warwickshire at the time, about an hour away, and Andrew s main question to me was How long will it take you to drive from Shipston to Worcester? .
