Portion of Rock Island Trail closes Friday

(KLKN)- Starting Friday, April 23, a portion of the Rock Island Trail that goes through the Lincoln Children’s Zoo, between 27th and “A” streets, will be closed for renovations of the Cascade Fountain. There is currently a project happening on the corner of the 27th street and Capitol Parkway intersection that is expected to continue through fall. Trail users are advised to take a detour on the Billy Wolff Trail north of the Zoo or at “A” street to avoid the area. The Zoo and LPS Science Focus Program will still be accessible from the Rock Island Trail near “A” street.

LPS looking to name its three new schools

KLKN-TV February 8, 2021 1:54 pm Today, the Lincoln Board of Education is asking the community to help name them! If you’re interested, submit suggested names to lps.org from Feb. 8 – 28. The three new schools include: A high school near NW 48th and W Holdrege Streets, opening in the fall of 2022. This will be the seventh LPS high school and will house the new Medical Science Focus Program. A high school near 70th and Saltillo Road, opening in the fall of 2023. This will be the eighth LPS high school. An elementary school near E 102nd and S Holdredge Streets, opening in the fall of 2022. This will be the 40th elementary school in LPS.

Bryan Health, Lincoln Public Schools launch new science program

KLKN-TV December 17, 2020 10:35 am LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) Bryan Health and Lincoln Public Schools (LPS) hold a remote press conference at 11 a.m. to unveil a new Medical Science Focus Program. LPS and Bryan College of Health Sciences (BCHS) announce a 10-year partnership to launch this program, which is set to open in the fall of 2022 with the new high school located near 48th and W Holdrege Streets. In a recent press release, LPS Superintendent Steve Joel said, “LPS continues to look for opportunities to collaborate with community partners that will engage our students and enhance their experiences while we prepare them to graduate college and be career ready.”
