Thanks to the Rehoboth community

Waynne Harmon Paskins March 11, 2021 My sincerest thanks and appreciation to Nancy Alexander and Margaret LaFond at the Rehoboth Beach Museum and Chris Flood’s story taken from the museum’s “In Their Own Words” oral history series, for sharing a bit of my life experiences growing up as a native in my hometown. It was truly humbling to have many of my former students and their parents, friends, co-workers, church family and my family members attend the virtual program! Thank you all. Indeed, my life has been one of favor, blessings and love! I could not have served our community without having had each of you touch my life in some way.

Dewey residents, officials continue fight against 5G poles

Friday, October 2, 2020 From calls for civil disobedience to comparisons with the Baltimore Colts leaving town in the dead of night, Dewey Beach residents and officials united in opposition to the installation of 5G poles along the town’s coastline during a March 2 public hearing on an ordinance to regulate wireless facilities. Mayor Dale Cooke said the town has no desire for the poles, but they are mandated by state and federal regulations. The town has contacted the governor, and state and local officials to fight the installation, he said. However, most streets in Dewey are controlled by the state, which is unlike any other town in Delaware, Cooke said. When the town learned about the installations through Verizon, and not the state, Cooke said, the town immediately called the state to put a stop to it.

Delaware Yield set to expire in 2021

Bike Delaware supports permanent status The Lewes-to-Georgetown Trail crossing at Old Orchard Road is among the most dangerous, according to bicyclists. NICK ROTH PHOTO Nick Roth February 19, 2021 A controversial Delaware law that allows bicyclists to ride through stop signs without stopping if the intersection is clear is set to expire in October. However, Bike Delaware, a nonprofit group that advocates for safe bicycling, would like to see the Delaware Yield become a permanent law. James Wilson, executive director of Bike Delaware, says a 60-month study by Delaware State Police found that bicycle-involved crashes at stop sign intersections dropped more than 20 percent after the Delaware Yield was enacted in 2017.
