What are you thinking, Sen Lopez?

Gerald Cohen February 4, 2021 It’s time to rip the masks off politicians like state Sen. Ernie Lopez who profess in public to hold positions they believe are popular with constituents, and then, behind closed doors, vote the other way.  Lopez, along with every other Republican senator in the General Assembly, voted last month against a resolution to declare gun violence a public health crisis. This is the same Lopez who not so long ago appeared at an anti-gun rally in Rehoboth and left his constituents with the impression that he supported their call for a ban on assault weapons. Then he voted against such a ban. He did the same thing with equal pay legislation.

Lewes committee offers recommendations for downtown parking

The Lewes Downtown Business District Parking Committee has determined there is plenty of parking for residents and visitors, but directing people to free parking areas within walking distance of Second Street remains a challenge. Improved signage is among the recommendations the committee made to mayor and city council in its final report. Other suggestions include moving forward with a partnership with M&T Bank to allow in-season metered public parking in its lot at the corner of West Third Street and Market Street, improving existing free parking lots on Schley Avenue and at Otis Smith Park, and clearly marking parking spaces on streets near the Lewes Historical Society.

Why 6 Delaware Republican senators refuse to congratulate Joe Biden

Delaware News Journal Six Delaware Republican senators refused this week to congratulate President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris for winning the 2020 election. It was the latest sign that GOP lawmakers at the state Capitol may be less willing to compromise on crucial bills this year as they move away from moderate traditions to a polarized, partisan split. Lawmakers on Thursday voted on two Democratic resolutions  which essentially serve as a formal statement without any legal or material consequence  to congratulate the state s former U.S. senator and his running mate on achieving the highest office in the country.
