KIA EV6 Forms The Basis for Future Performance Electric Vehicles
With the first photos of the KIA EV6, the South Korean carmaker KIA released a preview of the brand s first vehicle designed exclusively for battery operation (BEV). Kia surprised many when it announced a flagship variant of the all-electric EV6 dubbed the GT that’s delivering performance more akin to a supercar. It has since confirmed that it will build other EVs with the GT designation and a similar performance philosophy.
Thanks to a pair of powerful electric motors and a 77.4 kWh battery pack, the Kia EV6 GT pumps out no less than 577 hp and 546 lb-ft (740 Nm) of torque, allowing it to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 3.5 seconds, which is quicker than the Porsche Taycan 4S. The EV6 GT tops out at 162 mph (260 km/h) and can travel 252 miles (405 km) on a single charge.

Shortly after the unveiling of the Kia EV6, the South Korean automaker revealed that it will be expanding the high-performance GT line-up moving forward.
According to Kia’s head of global brand and customer experience, Artur Martins, the GT range puts specific emphasis on the “exciting driving experience,” one that can be amplified with electrification. He told Australian newswire
CarSales that the “GT is an important element in our strategy moving forward.”
“We had it already in the internal combustion engines in Stinger, and some of the products in the portfolio like K5 and Forte, so it’s part of our strategy today. It will also be an important part of our strategy moving forward,” he added.
