Nutrition support in Karamoja Region
WFP started implementing its blanket supplementary feeding programme (BSFP) in Moroto and Napak Districts in Karamoja sub-region. The implementation follows results from the Food Security and Nutrition Assessment (FSNA) carried out by WFP and UNICEF in March 2020, which indicates that global acute malnutrition (GAM) prevalence in Moroto has increased beyond the emergency threshold of 15 percent and stands at 17.2 percent, requiring immediate nutrition support and assistance.
At least 29,000 pregnant and lactating women and girls (PLWGs) and children aged 6 to 59 months were enrolled into the BSFP. Distributions started in Moroto and reached a total of 7,054 people in December and will be extended to Napak in January. A ration of 1

Operational Updates
WFP continued implementing treatment of moderate acute malnutrition in Guidimakha, Assaba and Hodh El Charghi regions, reaching 7,161 children and pregnant and lactating women. A new screening exercise is under preparation for Assaba and Hodh El Charghi region in order to identify people in need of nutrition assistance.
The school feeding programme resumed on 4 January following the decision of the Mauritanian government to reopen schools. A daily morning porridge and a hot meal were distributed to 19,694 pupils in the three regions of the country where WFP already implemented a package of resilience building activities. Operational Updates
• On 06 January 2021, Lesotho moved back to Orange level restrictions, which implies tighter measures to curb the spread of COVID-19. . Orange restrictions are one level lower than hard lockdown measures (red).
• All ten districts of Lesotho are currently classified to be in Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) 3 or worse, with some 582,000 people in rural areas and a further 184,000 people in urban contexts experiencing acute food insecurity.
