GUWAHATI: Two northeastern states, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram are celebrated their statehood day on Saturday. Both states attained statehood on February 20, 1987 following the 53rd Amendment of the Indian Constitution in 1986.
The mountainous frontier state of Arunachal Pradesh, sanskrit for ‘land of the rising sun’, is situated in the extreme northeastern part of the country.
It was formerly known as the North East Frontier Agency (NEFA) and was part of Assam until it was made a union territory in 1972 and a full-fledged state on February 20, 1987.

The state, Arunachal Pradesh was known as the North-East Frontier Agency and the region was the part of Assam back during the British colonial rule. It was in 1972 that the region became India s Union Territory.
The state is all set to celebrate 35th Arunachal Pradesh Statehood day tomorrow i.e. on February 20, 2021. The state s name has its presence in the ancient Hindu literature which includes Kalika-Purana and in certain epic poems of Ramayana and Mahabharata.
