It all started in June 2009 itself when China objected to an irrigation project in Arunachal on the ground that the state was âdisputed territoryâ.
Keeping in mind Chinaâs sensitivities and claims over Arunachal Pradesh, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has excluded the Northeast Indian state from a vital project titled âNorth East Economic Corridorâ.
The project, preparatory workshops for which are slated to be held soon, aims at boosting intra-region (Northeast) connectivity and developing multi-modal transport networks to enhance South Asia-South East Asia connectivity.

China has completed construction of a strategic highway linking Pad Township in Nyingchi city with Baibung in Medog County. The 67.22-kilometer-long highway was constructed at a cost of $310 million and took almost seven years to complete, according to Xinhuanet. It cuts the distance between Nyingchi and Baibung from the current 346 kilometers to 180 kilometers, and reduces travel time by eight hours.
The new highway is of concern to India as it will improve China’s overland connectivity infrastructure near the disputed India-China border. It will enable China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) to mobilize troops and military equipment faster overland to the Line of Actual Control (LAC), the de facto but undefined border between the two countries.
Chinese Village : BJP Workers Stage Protest in Arunachal, Burn Effigy of Xi Jinping
FOLLOW US ON:
BJP workers in Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday staged a protest against the reported construction of a village by China in the northeastern state s Upper Subansiri district and burnt the effigy of Chinese President Xi Jinping. BJP spokesperson Techi Necha said that China repeatedly claims Arunachal Pradesh as its territory and makes such intrusions into the state. We strongly condemn such acts of China and want to send a strong message to Beijing that we are Indian and shall remain Indian. The area (where the village has reportedly been constructed) was earlier occupied by China in 1959 during the Congress rule and the party had failed to protect it or develop the border areas of the state, Necha told reporters.
