Was Schmidt Pain Index Created by Man Who Let Insects Sting Him on Purpose?

Origin Entomologist Justin Schmidt redefined what it meant to conduct painstaking research in the name of science. Dubbed the “Connoisseur of Pain” by the Entomological Society of America, the American bug scientist has been stung hundreds of times over in his career.  But the pain was not without purpose. Schmidt’s poking and prodding would ultimately lead to a scientific categorization of his painful experiences. The Schmidt Sting Pain Index ranks the level of pain administered by being stung by an insect of the order Hymenopteran, which includes bees, wasps, and ants.  Schmidt recorded his own experience of venomous stings to rate and describe the pain associated with the venom of certain insects, according to the Natural History Museum.

Study finds breast cancer s response to tumour stiffness may predict bone metastasis

Study finds breast cancer s response to tumour stiffness may predict bone metastasis ANI | Updated: Jul 01, 2021 07:58 IST Washington [US], July 1 (ANI): A new study by University of Arizona Health Sciences researchers found that cancer cells become more aggressive when exposed to tissue stiffening and that these changes persist over time. The paper, Breast tumour stiffness instructs bone metastasis via maintenance of mechanical conditioning , published in the journal Cell Reports, found that the stiffness of the breast tumour microenvironment can cause changes to cancer cells that make them more aggressively spread to the bone. Tumour stiffening, which develops as diseased breast tissue becomes fibrotic, plays a major role in how breast cancer cells spread throughout the body.
