“By using these federal funds to prioritize the state’s most needed bridge projects, we are able to continue our priority of improving Michigan’s neglected roads without raising the tax burden on Michigan workers,” Sen. Aric Nesbitt, R-Lawton, said in a statement.
“Not only will this improve the safety of numerous bridges across the state, covering the costs of these bridge repairs with federal monies will also help local governments by freeing up funding for other needed road projects in their communities.”
The plan now advances to the House for consideration.
Michigan s state government received over $6.5 billion from the American Rescue Plan, the coronavirus relief package signed into law in March.

House Bills 4201 and HB 4203 will prohibit unauthorized persons from boarding a school bus without permission of the driver and create a $500 civil fine for an unauthorized boarding.
Whitmer to announce millions in sweepstakes to incentivize COVID vaccines

Lansing Gov. Gretchen Whitmer will unveil an initiative Thursday offering cash prizes and college scholarships to encourage more Michigan residents to get their COVID-19 vaccines.
The effort, called MI Shot to Win Sweepstakes, will give Michiganians who are vaccinated the chance to win more than $5 million and nine $55,000 college scholarships through a lottery-style raffle, according to an advisory from the governor s office. It s being supported by Meijer and the Michigan Association of United Ways.
A press conference is planned for Thursday morning to provide more details.
Initially, this spring, Whitmer said Michigan law precluded state government from offering such a program. But she has since indicated her administration was exploring the possibility.
