With 34 years of history, the newly revamped Club 5 at Parkroyal on Beach Road has been transformed into stunning Art Deco-inspired space by Emma Maxwell.

After being suitably distressed, and being reminded that I was unimportant enough for anyone to care about after a few days, the incident got me thinking about the nature of media in today’s wired world.
Ah, a double-storey high Muslim-owned floral themed brasserie called “The Secret Garden” located in the heart of Kampong Glam.
Not related to the novel and movie, The Secret Garden focuses on French-inspired cuisine with an enchanting floral installation as the backdrop.
Stepping inside, the first floor houses a small petalsmith counter with an in-house florist on the left; a display shelf with all the fresh pastries and cakes on the right.
A total of 36 seats are available in the compound – 12 on the first floor, 24 on the 2nd floor.
The look is thematic, with wallpapers depicting forest, paintings of a garden and a mini bouquet of flowers made by the florist.

Growing up at a time when, and in space where my cultural experiences had little to do with the state prescribed definition of my ethnicity, has given me a wonderful set of childhood memories. There was much that I took joy from in a household were the languages used and the food we enjoyed was anything but what one might have expected.
