A 30-year-old worker, hailing from Koppal district, died after being hit by a motorcycle near Kodikkal Auto Works in Kannur in Manglauru Traffic South Police Station limits on Wednesday.
The police said that Renuka (30) was hit by the motorcycle coming towards the city from BC Road. Renuka and motorcycle rider Mohammd Sadiq were injured. Both were brought to the Government Wenlock Hospital where Renuka died.

MANGALURU: This doctor, who performed surgeries on Covid positive patients during lockdown, was one of the Covid frontline warriors to be vaccinated on the first day of the nationwide vaccination drive.
Dr Sadanand Poojary, a Consultant Urologist and Andrologist, performed surgery on ten Covid positive patients at Government Wenlock Hospital, including an emergency operation at midnight on a patient, with several other complications.
Dr Sadanand was fortunate not to catch the Coronavirus, but his wife Sowmya, an ophthalmologist working at Bantwal Government Health Centre did test positive during lockdown. So, both were quarantined for a fortnight. Luckily their son didn’t test positive.

Deputy Commissioner K.V. Rajendra on Friday asked Health Department personnel involved in COVID-19 vaccination to conduct preliminary health checks for fever, blood pressure and sugar before administering the vaccine to health workers during the first phase of the vaccination that is likely to be held in the second week of January.
Reviewing the dry run for the vaccination held at Government Wenlock Hospital here, Dr. Rajendra said after administration of the vaccine the health care worker should be allowed to go home and take rest. As the vaccine is injected intramuscularly, arrangements should be made to respond to likely health problems to be experienced by the recipient, he said.
Opposition says Smart City projects are flawed

Leader of the Opposition in the Mangaluru City Corporation Council Abdul Rauf on Friday said that many works being taken up under the Smart City projects in the city were flawed thereby leading to waste of crores of rupees of public money.
Mr. Rauf told reporters here that the concrete road constructed under the Smart City project on Car Street has witnessed cracks within a month of its construction. In other areas of the city, cracks on newly built concrete roads have been filled with cement, he said. He added that rules were flouted in awarding contracts for projects.
‘Govt. has taken enough precautionary measures to ensure safety of children’
Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada K.V. Rajendra has said that parents can send their children to primary and high schools without any apprehension when they are re-opened on January 1, as the government has taken enough precautionary measures to ensure safety of children.
In a statement here on Wednesday, he said that no mid-day meal will be served in schools. Hence, students should bring food and hot water with them from home. There will be no sports and cultural activities in schools. Teachers have been instructed to conduct classes by ensuring social distancing.
