He seeks action against erring doctor
Leader of the Congress in Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Council A.C. Vinayraj alleged on Saturday that a doctor at Government Wenlock Hospital made the sister-in-law of a 74-year-old COVID-19 patient look after her in the hospital on Friday night.
Medical Superintendent of the hospital, who is also the District Surgeon, Sadashiva has refuted the allegation. He told
The Hindu that no caretaker is being allowed inside the COVID-19 ward and the hospital building to look after their family members.
In a press release on Saturday, Mr. Vinayraj, who is also the spokesperson of the Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee, said that the patient from Kodical had been shifted from the A.J. Hospital and Research Centre to the Wenlock Hospital and admitted in the B ward.

With only the government healthcare facilities vaccinating people in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi on Saturday, a total of 7,316 people aged 45 and above were jabbed in the two districts. While 4,572 were vaccinated in Dakshina Kannada, 2,744 received the vaccine in Udupi district.
Dakshina Kannada district nodal officer for vaccines, B.V. Rajesh, said as vaccine was in short supply, priority was being given to those who were awaiting their second dose. Only Covishield vaccine was being administered and the district was yet to receive stock of Covaxin.
Dr. Rajesh said government healthcare facilities have been asked to look into their database and send intimations to people who are due for their second dose.

With the clearing of backlog COVID-19 samples and arrangements made for entry of test results in the ICMR portal, RT-PCR tests at the Government Wenlock Hospital here started with renewed vigour on Friday.

The Hindu that the hospital has a capacity to test around 2,000 samples of nasal and throat swabs per day. In the last few days, the load increased to around 4,000 samples and there was backlog of around 1,800 samples every day. There were complaints about delay in getting test results.

Deputy Commissioner K.V. Rajendra on Thursday instructed the Government Wenlock Hospital to increase the number of ventilators in its Intensive Care Unit (ICU) from 15 to 50.
Chairing a meeting at the hospital, he said that the hospital should make necessary arrangements to increase the capacity in ICU.
The meeting decided to shift the room reserved for dialysis ward from the first floor to the old medical block.
It resolved to appoint 50 staff nurses after consulting doctors. Dr. Rajendra instructed the hospital to shift such COVID-19 patients who have recovered from symptoms and those who are having only mild symptoms and those who have completed 10 days of treatment to the ESI hospital in the city.
Contribute funds for setting up medical facilities: Kateel
With the second wave of COVID-19 surging, Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, on Wednesday appealed to the private and the public sector companies to assist the government in creating, arranging medical facilities to tackle the disease in the district.
Speaking at a meeting on COVID-19 control, Mr. Kateel asked the companies to contribute funds for setting up medical oxygen plants, purchase of oxygen cylinders, and creating, facilitating other medical facilities in the district.
Mr. Kateel said that the infection is spreading fast and there is a crisis. Saving the infected persons has emerged as a challenge both to doctors and the government. In such a situation the companies should join hands with the government to overcome the crisis.
