In 1979, Mohammad Rafiq Shiekh was appointed as a daily-wager at the department of sports in the Government College for women at Moulana Azad Road Srinagar.
Sheikh was a teenager then. He wanted to help his family financially so he agreed to work at the college. He was unaware that this college will be his first and last place to serve. With a meagre salary of Rs 150 per month, he remained as a daily wager till 1982.
For his dedication and good performance, Sheikh got a permanent post at the college and his salary was increased by Rs 250. From the sports department he was a posted gatekeeper, a duty he discharged for the following four decades.

UDHAMPUR, Apr 20: NCC girl cadets of Government College for Women, Udhampur today visited the statue of martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan at T Morh, Udhampur and paid homage on his 32nd birth anniversary.
The brave heart was martyred in an anti-terrorist operation in Kashmir. The unmatched courage and sacrifice displayed by the officer was an inspiration for the cadets.
Under the guidance of Lieutenant Kamaldeep Kaur, Associate NCC Officer, the cadets cleaned and decorated the area with the assistance of Station Headquarters, Udhampur.

DASKA: The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) Saturday unofficially won the high-stakes by-election in NA-75 Sialkot-IV with its candidate Nosheen Iftikhar bagging 111,220 votes defeating the PTI’s Ali Asjad Malhi by a margin of 19,201 votes.
According to the unofficial results received from 360 polling stations, Nosheen Iftikhar was polled 111,220 votes with Ali Asjad Malhi trailing behind her with 92,019 votes.
A wave of jubilation swept through the constituency with the PMLN workers and activists taking out rallies and distributing sweets to celebrate the victory.
The polling started at 8am and continued till 5pm without break.
A total of 360 polling stations were set up for 4,94,000 registered voters. Forty-seven polling stations were declared sensitive by the ECP.
