MANGALURU: In an attempt to enter the India Book of Records, a government school teacher swam one kilometer in the Arabian Sea with his legs chained in a Padmasana posture at Tannirbavi on Friday. Nagaraja Kharvi Kanchugodu, 38, a teacher at Government Higher Primary School, Kalmanja, Bantwal taluk swam in breaststroke style in Padmasana (lotus position in yoga) and completed the feat in 25 minutes 16 seconds (25:16:63). Kharvi told TOI that no one has ever tried this feat and it will be a new record of its own sort.

For Mr. Kharvi returned safely after swimming a kilometre in the Arabian Sea, with his legs chained on Friday at Tannirbhavi here. Mr. Kharvi’s wife Krupa, his brothers, his friends, and fellow swimmers from the Mangala Swimming Club, where he swims daily at the Tannirbhavi beach, followed. Mr. Kharvi, a teacher from Government Higher Primary School at Kalmanja village in Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada, did a breaststroke to cover the distance in 25 minutes and 16.63 seconds. His legs were chained in the ‘Padmasana’ pose and he had made a claim for entry into the India Book of Records.

Bhatkal Gram Panchayat Elections: 853 candidates file nomination papers Bhatkal: December 12, 2020 (Bhatkallys News Bureau) Elections for 16 gram panchayats in Bhatkal taluka are going to be held on December 22 in the first phase for which a total of 853 candidates have filed nomination papers till Friday, the last day for filing nomination papers. While today (Saturday) all these pamphlets will be validated.   According to the details, 14 candidates had filed nomination papers on Monday, the first day, 80 candidates on the second day (Tuesday), 144 candidates on the third day (Wednesday), 276 candidates on the fourth day (Thursday) and the highest number of 339 candidates on Friday had filed nomination papers.
