Credit: KARE Author: Dana Thiede Updated: 1:31 PM CDT May 11, 2021 MINNEAPOLIS Students and staff at the U of M are being advised to be aware and not walk alone at night after a rash of robberies and thefts in recent days.  U of M public safety officials have recorded ten incidents involving robbery or theft in the Dinkytown and Stadium Village neighborhoods since Thursday, May 6. Of those crimes, four are classified as aggravated robberies, two are robberies of a person and four are theft from a person.

According to officials, there have been four aggravated robberies, two robberies and four thefts since May 6.  All of the incidents involved the taking of cell phones from U of M students.  6 robberies, 4 thefts from U of M students since May 6 A series of robberies and thefts near the University of Minnesota led public officials to issue a warning to students Tuesday. On May 9 at about 3 p.m., a robbery was reported at University Avenue Southeast and 14th Avenue. The suspect took the victim’s cell phone and fled in a vehicle. The victim was struck by the fleeing vehicle and sustained minor injuries. The suspect is described as a late-teens or early-20s male with a thin build, wearing a gray t-shirt and black jeans. Created: May 11, 2021 01:04 PM The University of Minnesota Police Department is warning people of recent robberies and thefts in the Dinkytown and Stadium Village areas. The U of M Public Safety Department said there have been four reports of aggravated robberies, two reports of people being robbed and four reports of thefts in the areas since May 6. Minneapolis police are investigating the incidents. All the incidents involved taking cellphones from U of M students, according to the university. U of M Public Safety urged community members to avoid using a phone while walking and stay alert, as being distracted can make for easier targets. Traveling with others is also recommended.
