CAIRO (AP) A passenger train derailed Sunday, north of Cairo, killing at least 11 people, Egyptian authorities said. It was the latest of several rail accidents in the country in recent years.
Four train wagons ran off the railway at the city of Banha in Qalyubia province, just outside Cairo, the railway authority said in a statement. Videos on social media showed wagons overturned and passengers escaping to safety along the railway.

Egypt wants $1 billion after ship blocked Suez Canal David Matthews
The Egyptian government has calculated a $1 billion bill to get the MV Ever Given cargo ship unstuck in the Suez Canal.
The massive freighter was stuck for six days, leading to Egypt working around the clock to dredge the canal and refloat the vessel which paused global trade and cost the Egyptian government millions in transit fees and work hours that it wants to collect.
“This is the right of the country,” Lt. Gen. Ossama Rabei, head of Suez Canal Authority, told Egypt’s Sada ElBalad news. “It should get its due.”
The cost of blocking shipping for almost a week through one of the most crucial waterways on earth, the Suez Canal, apparently comes in at right around $1 billion.
