GREENWICH Joseph Ryan, a former Greenwich police sergeant, told the court “I’ve disgraced myself and my family” as he was sentenced to six months in federal prison on a gun-related offense.
Judge Jeffrey Meyer imposed the sentence in U.S. District Court in New Haven on Thursday, saying the former police officer had carried out an “abuse” of his position.
In April, Ryan pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful possession of firearms by a prohibited person. Prosecutors said he had acquired guns and then transferred them to a known felon, who was his heroin dealer.
