Iro Bindawa, secretary of the council, said in a statement that Lawal’s suspension was with immediate effect.
While he did not disclose the reason for his suspension, Mamman Ifo, secretary to the Katsina emirate,
told BBC the measure was taken because of his alleged links with bandits.
Ifo also said the emirate took the step to reassure the government and people of Katsina that it in support of the fight against banditry.

He added that the emirate has set up a special committee to investigate the allegations against Lawal.
His suspension came months after gunmen attacked Government Science Secondary School in Kankara, from where they abducted over 300 schoolboys.

The Katsina Emirate Council has suspended the Sarkin Pauwan Katsina, who is also the district head of Kankara, Yusuf Lawal, over alleged involvement in aiding and abating banditry activities in his domain.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Sallaman Katsina who is the Secretary to the emirate council, Mamman Ifo, on behalf of the Emir of Katsina, Abdulmumin Usman.
The statement dated April 30, 2021, did not reveal his real offence but instead added that the suspension was with immediate effect.
The spokesman for the Katsina Emirate Council, Iro Bindawa, who also confirmed the development said the suspended district head was under investigation.
