For some, business heats up when the weather gets cold
The Como Zoo Conservatory was about 100 degrees warmer than the outside air Monday.
(FOX 9) - Much of the Midwest has been in a bitter cold snap for about a week but for some businesses that means traffic is picking up.
Como Zoo and Conservatory in St. Paul features indoor, tropical exhibits where the temperature hovers around 85 degrees, with humidity. That’s around 100 degrees warmer than it felt outside on Monday.
What Minnesota businesses are hot during the brutal cold
A climbing gym, a doggie daycare and the conservatory are all staying hot as Minnesotans brave the cold.
Youâve seen them in front yards across the Omaha metro area.
Thereâs one at Morning Star Lutheran Church near 84th Street and Broadmoor Drive.
And now thereâs a Little Free Library in an unused bay at Oak View Mall.
Itâs been there for a couple of months, and itâs being noticed, said Amber Bakken, the mallâs property manager.
âWe have received messages on Nextdoor (a neighborhood social networking website) and our social networks mentioning how people appreciate the library,â she said. âWe have been very excited about the communityâs response.â
Bakken said employees from a nearby jewelry repair shop often see people perusing the books in the library while they wait for their items to be fixed. Sheâs also seen people sitting in commons areas drinking coffee and reading a bestseller from the libraryâs shelves.
