The Cuba Ministry of Higher Education will now allow passengers flying to the island to bring unlimited food, hygiene and medicine products with no import fees.
Cubans are demanding a change from Cuba’s Communist government, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, offered some self-criticism while saying that government shortcomings in handling shortages and other problems played a role in protests.
Prime Minister Manuel Marrero announced customs flexibility for Cuban citizens who go on foreign trips to bring home toiletries, food and medicines, which are the most hard to find items in Cuba.

Die Demonstranten brachten ihren Unmut über die schlimmste Wirtschaftskrise seit 30 Jahren und die damit einhergehende Strom- und Lebensmittelknappheit zum Ausdruck. Seit dem Beginn der Corona-Pandemie kam es zudem zu einem kritischen Medikamentenmangel in Kuba. Die Behörden des Karibikstaats gingen nach Aussagen von Aktivisten brutal gegen die Demonstranten vor. Mehr als hundert Menschen wurden festgenommen. Ein 36-jähriger Mann starb am Montag bei einer Demonstration am Stadtrand von Havanna. Die landesweiten Demonstrationen sind für Kuba extrem ungewöhnlich. Die einzigen erlaubten Versammlungen sind normalerweise Veranstaltungen der regierenden Kommunistischen Partei.

HAVANA (Reuters) -Cuba announced on Wednesday it was temporarily lifting restrictions on the amount of food and medicine travelers could bring into the country in an apparent small concession to demands by protesters who took to the street last weekend.

Travelers arriving in Cuba can now bring in food, medicine and other essentials without paying customs, the government said Wednesday in a concession to angry and unprecedented street protests.
Prime Minister Manuel Marrero said there would be no limit placed on these goods and the change will be in effect until the end of the year.
Cubans took to the streets in droves on Sunday in an explosion of anger over economic hardship marked by shortages of food, electricity and other essentials.
