More than a week after the provincial government declared Saskatchewan was close enough to start the countdown on the end of the mask mandate and large gathering ban, the province still hasnât got a full per cent of those eligible to take a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
After the latest vaccination numbers were released Monday afternoon, only 69.8 per cent of Saskatchewan residents 12 and up had received a first dose. The provincial government has rounded that up, though, to 70 per cent.
As well, the new numbers for Monday had 981 people getting first doses while 11,414 people got their second. May 30 was the last time first doses outpaced second doses in daily reported numbers.

Every Saskatchewan resident aged 12 and older is now eligible for their second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, provided it has been 28 days since they received the first dose.
This is the final milestone in Saskatchewan’s immunization schedule as the province looks to drop the last public health measures meant to curb the spread of the virus.

The provincial health ministry announced an additional 24,971 doses of COVID-19 vaccine had been administered, the highest one-day total to date. It represents roughly one in every 50 residents, or a city many thousands larger than the population of Yorkton.

Saskatchewan’s COVID-19 vaccination campaign reported its biggest day yet Thursday, but health officials in the province want more.
“We’ve never had more vaccines available in our province,” Health Minister Paul Merriman said during a media conference. “This is the time.”
The Ministry of Health said 24,971 vaccinations had been done in the latest reporting period, the highest single-day total since Saskatchewan started immunizing people against COVID in December.
As Merriman pointed out, the total announced Thursday is two per cent of the province’s population.
Of that total, 22,552 were second doses, increasing the total number of people fully vaccinated to 334,515 (or 32 per cent of the eligible population in the province).
