A group called Friends of the Campaign for BC Parks has organized a petition to try and stop the province from allowing commercial resort developments in B.C.’s class A provincial parks.
“They may range from cabins to like hundred-room hotels with restaurants, shops, marinas,” said Sharon Glynn of Esquimalt, one of the petition organizers. “These are not just places that are going to sit beside a campground many of these are in the prime locations.”
For instance, she pointed out that the province wants to allow a resort to be developed about 20 kilometres up Mt. Robson near a glacier. As well, plans are in the works to build a resort and marina at one of the lakes in Wells Gray Provincial Park.
