Separately, the country’s factory output, measured in terms of the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), witnessed a 22.4 per cent growth in March on low base effect, two separate data released by the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation (MoSPI) showed on Wednesday. Consumer price inflation was predicted to cool to 4.2 per cent in April, just above the RBI s 4 per cent mid-point target and down from March s four-month high of 5.52%, according to a Reuters poll of nearly 50 economists taken over the past week.

Industry output contracts 3.6% in February
Mining and manufacturing output declined 5.5 per cent and 3.3 per cent, respectively, in February, while power generation grew 0.1 per cent.

Cumulatively, IIP contracted 11.3 per cent during April-February 2020-21 as against a 1 per cent growth during the same period in 2019-20.

New Delhi: India’s retail inflation, measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), rose to 5.52 per cent in the month of March. The retail inflation during the month of February was at 5.03 per cent. Note that this is the fourth consecutive month that the CPI data has come within the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) upper margin of 6 per cent.

Economic data:
India s retail inflation, measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), rose to 5.03% in February, data released by the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation (MoSPI) showed on Friday. The retail inflation was 4.06% in January 2021 and was 6.58% in February 2020.
Separately, India s factory output, measured in terms of the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), witnessed a contraction of 1.6% in January 2021. The industrial output rose by 1% in December 2020 and grew by 2% in January 2020.
